Episode details

Things are not feeling particularly sane right now. Not in the world, not in the media. And not in this country, as we continue to navigate debilitating political polarization.

It feels difficult to know where to start, let alone how to connect across divides.

But my guest on the podcast today is hopeful. Profoundly so.

Mónica Guzmán is the Seattle journalist we met last month, in a Q&A conversation about challenging polarization. She’s a director at Braver Angels, a grassroots organization that works to heal polarization, and a former fellow at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University. Her new book, I Never Thought of It That Way: How to Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times, is as energizing and inspiring as it is practical.

On today’s episode of Lean Out, Mónica walks us through her approach to bridge-building and journalism, affirming curiosity, respect, and the magic of conversation.
