As a business man, I'd like to hear about income inequality--particularly the corporate kind, management vs worker, business owner vs employee. I'd like to read about some thinking on what we'll do when the nature of work exceeds the ability of the average person to do it.
I felt the same way when I saw the topic of this interview - haven't we talked about this enough? And then when I heard the discussion I really appreciated it, particularly the encouragement to volunteer. There are very few times when protesting makes a difference while every volunteering interaction makes a difference.
Sorry to read that comment. The second wave did more damage than good. They have sold a package that makes no sense and for some young girls it is part of the package that is overwelming. Its nice to hear an honest insightful admission that maybe a meaningful life isn't measured by a pay cheque and bank account.
Yes, there is. A core need is to know that when you get out of bed in the morning, you are doing things to make the world a better place in some small way. This is true for almost everyone. When you don't sacrifice for others, and work hard to make the world a better place, the result is "narcissim".
There are many ways to do this. The business person who employs people makes their lives better. The cook who cooks good food, makes peoples lives better. The mother caring for a child makes the childs life better. The son assisting his elderly mother makes her life better......
Having people you belong to, and having ways in which you serve those people is how we as humans have always found meaning.
