My sons were born in 1974 and 1978, and I bought Thomas Gordon's Parent Effectiveness Training manual as well as attending P.E.T. workshops. I did appreciate the respect for the child's feelings, but treating children as equals is far from an ideal approach, and your child is not your friend and firm boundaries do give kids a sense of security.
I thought Tara did a good job navigating an interview with a woman who is both resilient and fragile.
