It’s been such an insane news week that I have not had a moment to fill you all in on some news I have for 2025. And so, over coffee this morning, I’m pleased to announce that I will now be doing a second podcast, with The Hub, starting next week.
Full Press is a new media criticism podcast with Harrison Lowman — former Lean Out producer and current managing editor of The Hub (you can listen to him on the Lean Out pod here) — and Peter Menzies, former newspaper executive and past vice chair of the CRTC, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (you can hear him on the Lean Out pod here).
Harrison and Peter are among the sharpest commentators on the media in the country, and I’m delighted to get to discuss all of the ongoing developments with them on the show, which premiers Thursday, January 16th at The Hub. If our early meetings are any indication, we’ll have no shortage of topics to share with you. Please join us!
The Full Press podcast comes at a particularly good time, as I have just signed a deal to write a book on the media this year. I’ll be working with esteemed editor and publisher Ian Malcolm at Polity Books in the UK. Polity is an international publisher known for its timely and critical books on pressing issues in social, political, and cultural life. I watch Polity’s list closely, and often cover their titles, so I’m thrilled to be joining their roster.
My forthcoming book will explore declining trust in the media, building on my work in the 2024 Massey Essay, a partnership between the Literary Review of Canada and Massey College at the University of Toronto. A big thank-you to Ian Malcolm at Polity for taking the project on — and to Kyle Wyatt at the Literary Review of Canada for commissioning the essay that started it all. Thanks as well to my agents Chris Casuccio and John Pearce at Westwood Creative Artists.
To all of you readers: I owe you an enormous debt of gratitude. Your continued support allows me to focus on the journalism that I think most needs to be done. I’m so pleased that our work together at Lean Out is having such an impact on the broader culture.
I’ll be back tomorrow with more thoughts on this pivotal moment in Canadian history. Until then, enjoy your Saturday!
Congratulations. Peter is also a very sharp mind, you will make an interesting truo. I am glad to see your success. I
Congratulations Tara! I’m a subscriber to Lean Out, The Hub and The Rewrite and couldn’t be more pleased to learn about this development. I look forward to listening to the inaugural podcast on January 16th.
