In Alberta, the first and critical mistake was to sideline Colonel Redmond and the Alberta Emergency Management and put Public Health in charge. We sidelined people had spent 15 years getting ready, who were trained to look at multiple competing risks, trained to manage disasters, while keeping society functioning, and replaced them with people who could only see ONE risk. This was the wrong thing to do.

There are always multiple risks in any situation. There are always "unintended consequences" to any policies pursued. Putting people who do not understand competing risks in charge is a recipe for disaster, and the pandemic proved that.

Well said. I agree.

Excellent conversation, as usual. This truly was the most epic of failures by government in recent memory. Every time I hear people talk about the damage that was done by "the pandemic", I always feel the need to clarify that the vast majority of this damage was not really accomplished by pandemic, but by our government's response to it.

The pandemic educated the global population on what tyranny looks and feels like, and that tyrants are always looming.

It was good for the average Joe to really see how incompetent the government is and how the media works as a propaganda machine.

Long term trust in our institutions, out the window.

The guest claims no one else is taking a hard look at the pandemic and govts' responses which is not exactly true. Here in Canada, the National Citizens Inquiry has just published an exhaustive report addressing the effect of therapeutic and non therapeutic interventions on millions of Canadians. The British Parliament has also begun an inquiry. The NB auditor general has also just weighed in on decisions made that were based on no evidence. It would be great if you could interview someone from the NCI as it has been unjustly ignored by the corporate media. I for one have not moved on and won't until the harms caused by these unprecedented policies are at the very least acknowledged.

Mostly superb. The beginning was muddled. He seemed to diss Capitalism and then equated what PE does w Capitalism. The stuff PE gets away with is an example of corruption. They pay off the pols to look the other way. It's an awful business. But, nearly all our public pension funds are heavily invested in them, so pols turn a blind eye. Otherwise, many excellent points. Very enjoyable.

It is clear to me the major shortsightedness for the government and the compliant Legacy Media was found in the assumption that we can easily weather the storm economically. While that can be argued, the greater problems were the social issues that arose because of the lockdowns. Those were not even considered by the lock-down authorities. They were never a part of the equation.

Every single time I listen to a Lean Out interview, my TBR pile keeps growing.

Oh I would hope somewhere there would be a lessons learned review. Very good - and I'll have to listen again. Thank you.
