Biologically speaking, "needs" are food, air, water, shelter, and group bonding. We don't have an innate need to make things complicated. The problem is the majority of infants are taught lies from their day of birth, and then the lies clash with material reality, which ensues people arguing about narratives vs facts.

But without the grooming into lies, all infants would grow up rational (unless dealing with trauma) and materialistic, as tribes humans were before arbitrary "civilisation" became the dominant narrative
