This is the most common backpedalling language I'm seeing from "experts" during such localised breaks in narrative.
Nothing is more infuriating than such lies.

We DID ABSOLUTELY know, by March 2020 how this virus functioned.
We DID ABSOLUTELY know, by March 2020, who were the at risk.
We DID ABSOLUTELY know, by March 2020, that this virus was not "novel", and that this was NOT a "pandemic".
There are two contexts:
1-Lay persons aren't tooled for scientific criticism, but lay people CAN fight back against authoritarianism. Lay persons need NOT fall prey to fear-narratives and "just follow the orders". Lay persons CAN stand-up and fight, and must.
2-Science literate persons, have, generally speaking, been a disgrace. Science literate persons claiming to "not have known" should have shut up rather than claim "mystery". I've never so been horrified at a narrative since the "Mystery of the Bermuda Triangle".
No science literate person had any excuse to not understand how respiratory viruses transmit, no excuse to not understand the extreme low IFR rates, no excuse to not understand that universal masking has NEVER been evidence-based, no excuse for lack of awareness of standard Pandemic Preparedness Plans.
I find the claims of ignorance from my fellow scientists less forgivable than the ignorance of lay persons, many of whom are barely surviving and work insane hours.

Beyond all the political rethoric, as a society, we have the WRONG policies.
Captive mammals in zoos live longer than their counterparts in nature.
Adulating old age, and sacrificing youth in order to extend the lives of the elderly is NOT ethical, it's akin to ritual sacrifices of millennia past.
This is not about politics, it's about societal delusion.
