Bravo. A step in the right direction. Is there anything concrete we can do (as concerned citizens, or allied professionals) to support?

This is a timely and necessary document, Tara. I've never been inside your industry, but I imagine this amounts to the bravery displayed in signing the US Declaration of Independence. You might alarm the King with this, but rest assured the colonists have your back.

This is the way. Thank you.

Government money going to media corporations is the sigle most important reason I do not trust media in general and Legacy Media in particular. This mistrust may be a good thing in the long run but is uncomfortable regardless. Frankly, what passes for the Media Giants in Canada should have refused the payola and written about the State’s attempts at influencing what is reported.

Of course, in all this, the CBC is in a class of its own. They will continue to receive money through a firehose without any need for a timid “thank you.” Thankfully, their audience is minuscule. I wonder how much per listener they are actually receiving...

Yes this is a much needed step, however, it is by no means complete. With Big Tech such as Bell, Rogers and Telus owning media outlets there is a breakdown in the integrity of their reporting as well. I think to go after government backed journalism and not address how the alternate will or are already being backed is misguided. This will only reinforce their dominance all the while we will celebrate our win for journalism and the leveling of the playing field only to have a much less transparent player take over.

Excellent work. Please take this forward.

One thing, we need to have separation of the Billionaire Class & Journalism as well. Independent Journalism needs to be truly independent, not just "the tyrant is dead, long live the tyrant". Funding models that allow Journalists to focus on Journalism, not on the whims of whoever is paying the bills, is required.

I was shocked yesterday when CBC winnipeg "called out" four Manitoba MPs who refused to vote for an otherwise unanimous house resolution supporting a particular cause. The announcer named them, slowly, one by one, in a kind of public shaming.

The cause is irrelevant. Since when are we not free to express our opinion, to vote for, against, or abstain? Who are they, the ones who cannot tolerate even a tiny amount of dissonance?

Shame on them. And shame on us for continuing to pay them.

I again say, we must defund the CBC. The well has been poisoned.
