Yes, get rid of all subsidies and make Canadian Media Subscriptions 100% deductible on taxes. This would be simple & would reflect Canadians actual values. It would also discipline the outlet, as if they failed to provide value, their subscriptions would disappear.
I am not in favor of allowing Philanthropists to donate to media. I have watched for too long as NGO's are approached by very wealthy individuals who say "I give you mega bucks if you implement this program". This of course completely takes the focus off the mandate of the NGO, as the CEO follows the money. (Very crazy policies implemented but the money flows)
I also need to comment on Housing & Addictions as to me they are very closely related.
Our model of how we view our economy & Housing does not actually reflect reality. We need to view the world in terms of ecologies, and seek models from nature to explain what is happening. (in some ways this is an indigenous way of viewing the world, although Bret Weinstein would call it an evolutionary lens)
As humans we are a part of the ecology of the world around us, when we are disconnected from our world, we behave in addictive ways. (https://www.amazon.ca/Globalization-Addiction-Study-Poverty-Spirit/dp/0199588716) The solution to addiction is not in legalizing, or criminalizing hard drugs but addressing the spiritual distress the addict is living. This is not a magic bullet but a lifetime of hard work.
Similarly, addressing the housing issue requires viewing the house as being a part of an ecology. An ecology that includes the community, the natural environment, the work people do, the social life they live, their gardens & animals. When we build housing, we build boxes that we put people in. There is no fruit trees, or a place for chickens. No sewing room, or machine shop. If lucky there is an office to work on line. There is no community life or supports. Our housing is just empty boxes that are devoid of anything of greater value.
Interesting Interview. Thanks Aarron & Holly
