Interesting. For me New York is a place that I have never been interested in. London, a dreary, ugly city, and Paris felt like a museum when I visited. I am more interested in places where real life happens, not the faux life of the "Rich & Powerful want to Be's." Maybe I a little weird, but I have always found celebrity to be trivial and boring and not understood why people cared about them.
As an Albertian, I want to be free of Ottawa, Toronto & Montreal. There is an attitude that emanates from those cities that seems to want to restrict & control, but understands little because they are "superior to us provincials". For example, I remember visiting Ottawa many years ago, and their only question for me was "how do you get along with the Rednecks". What that evoked in me was "It would never even occur to those Rednecks to ask the question", because those Rednecks are far more concerned with "who you are" (Character) than "what you are" (Race, Gender, etc.)
I sense an age coming in the not too distant future - that character - as in the ability to get stuff done on time and on budget - is all that will matter. (How's that LRT running in Ottawa or Montreal??????)
The BS of bluster - whether from the "left" or "right" - is on its last legs.
At least in Canada.
Perhaps I'm dreaming. If so - I always say that everyone needs a little false hope in their lives.

"Oh, those plebes are at it again."
