Oh boy... I wish I could be as optimistic.

"Divisiveness in politics is a shortcut — a workaround to actually having to deliver the promises you make your constituents."

Yes, weak leaders make themselves appear stronger by simply creating a narrative that their opponent is weak, bad, evil, etc.

While this isn't new, what is new is that the educated class has taken up this same dastardly behavior en mass. The campuses are still a mess of the postmodernism critical theory toxic mind virus. And there are millions of indoctrinated people still in positions of power and influence... and they are 100% cult-committed and are not going to just stop "thinking" they way they do and behaving the way they do.

I think there is a turn a bit from moderates away from this junk, but then the armies of radical relativists are still out there pushing the junk and liberals seem to have adopted it too. I think they are all just going to ramp up their volume and activity to the net level if it appears they are losing their grip on political power. Because maintaining political power is all they care about. My God... so the GOP takes over the legislature in 2022 and Trump or DeSantis wins in 2024... the crazies are going to the next level of insane and likely take 55% of the voters with them.

And the related problem is that the China-loving billionaire boys club and the Wall-Street backed WEF globalists are still committed to wiping out the western small business economy that supports the working class... and are gonna keep paying for the woke junk because it serves that purpose. They own the media and major corporations are still adopting all the ESG and DEI BS that supporting that toxic ideology and globalist take over that the pragmatic nationalists are fighting to prevent.

Because this needed correction is so damn rational and obvious to me... and has been... like we took some fateful wrong turn into the black forest in the upside down world and only need to go back and make the right turn... I am not confident that a rational epiphany of the patriotic center is gonna' happen. Because if that is a thing we should be relying on, it should have been playing for the last couple of decades.

Can we grow pragmatism in a people prone to so much media-powered uncontrolled emotional reactions and impulses? I am dubious.

I am cautiously optimistic as well but I do know that folks like you are contributing to the turning of the tide. Thank you!

Not so fast, Tara. Let's first see what "The October Surprise" is. I'm betting it's going to be a doozy.

Canadians have long prided themselves as being better than Americans. The Liberal genius was hogging the center (centre left or right depending on the circumstances) but something has clearly broken in Canada.

It’s clear in the number and frequency of the protests clearly to an observer that this is more than a fringe movement

I don’t know how this will play out but I am cautiously optimistic!

These are welcome signs, but I'll be more hopeful when whatever remains of the "left" comes to its senses, stops falling for the dangerous neo-con, neo-liberal, mainstream media pro-war propaganda about Russia and Ukraine, China and Taiwan, and understands that war, especially these wars, are undermining everything and everybody they say they are for. A woman's right to choose, not to mention the fight against climate change, won't mean much if the nukes start flying.

HI Tara, just wanted you to know that it was this post that finally got me to purchase a paid subscription. Had been meaning to for a while, and this one put me over the edge. Thank your your excellent research, enjoyable writing, sense of humour, and general common sense. See you in the Comments!

Hello Tara--I've been looking for contact info for you. But understand why you might not make it easy to find. I'm a paid sub, and a writer here. (I've posted a piece on Truth and Consequences--Brad Cran's pub on the UBC/Galloway fiasco, on how it was to be a contract teacher at that institution.)

BUT this is TIMELY, so I'm hoping you read it and consider thinking/posting, as our civic (?) elections are taking place.

Here in Vancouver, a neighbour/friend of mine is running for schoolboard, and one of her foci is on the SOGI in the curriculum--along with a number of others issues. She has already had someone shouting outside her home...

She is a writer and has done extensive editorial work back in the 90, is a member of the Editors Assoc of Canada... who have now asked (after being alerted by some Vancouver editor) the Elections Office to have her time on their Board (2 terms) "redacted" in her candidate bio... It's a long and ugly story. Here on Substack, Zelda's newsletter is

https://stopgenderideologykto12.substack.com/about

I wonder how many times-over this is occurring as we make our way to vote for those who govern our cities and towns, and make decisions about education... If you'd like to contact Zelda about her story, do, by way of her Substack.

Thank you for listening!
