On a point only peripherally touched on ...

It's ironic how the intellectual left adopts the least intellectual behavior -- to think one's beliefs are whole, complete, and perfect. Those who believe this, do not have to reflect, self critique, listen to others, modify, or amend their thoughts. They allow their egos to hide their imperfection, at the expense of further intellectual growth.

The corollary is, unmoderated confidence in one's thoughts varies inversely with the quality and depth of those thoughts.

... obviously not a trait that is exclusive to left vs right, or any identifiable group, but something we all struggle with, whether we are aware of it or not.
