Ironic, don't you think? This is the type of interview CBC would have done years ago on one of their current affairs radio shows. The denial of free speech is an historical feature of fascism. We all thought the military defeat of the Nazi version of fascism meant democracy had won for all time. Meanwhile, the fascists set up international corporations to conceal and promote their ideology now quite evident in the rise of global authoritarian regimes; unwittingly aided by the protofascism of the woke left. I claim my right to think, speak and write freely and debate ideas.

I wrote to CBC after their coverage of recent firing of tenured professor Frances Widdowson at Mount Royal U. Their headline said she was fired for criticizing BLM, the implication was that this was blasphemy. We had some back and forth emails and he claimed they did value free speech and pursuit of truth…then I cited their coverage of gender ideology…that refuses to recognize other stakeholders in the mix…scientific reality, safeguarding of children, safety of women, & detransitioners. I wasn’t expecting a response…but felt he did listen.

Yes! That was the CBC I loved. I don’t know what happened. Oh wait, we do. As Douglas Murray points out, so much of the madness is simply the result of good ideas being taken too far.

I am a long time fan of Doyle. Good catch. Hope to see you on Triggernometry and Dark Horse and on Bari Weiss and with Meghan Murphy and oh heck, you can make the rounds. Speaking of Meghan Murphy, the way she was treated by the CBC caused me to lose faith in that institution.

Thanks for mentioning Murphy, a brave and principled person if ever there was one.

And she is Canadian. Also, may I recommend Stuart Parker?

I wasn’t familiar with him but a quick search of YouTube brought up his appearance on Meghan Murphy’s podcast last year. I’ll have a listen. Any friend of Murphy’s is probably a friend of mine. Thanks for the tip.

And I missed him on Meghan so will catch that. Thanks.

Nice. You should have a sit down with James Lindsay. That would be great.

Canada is a mess. Bill C16 coerced language and forced redefinition of woman to a feeling? Bill C10 (internet control) and C38 (hate speech) in the shadows.

Canada is a ideological prison. We are looking at relocating to Sask or Alta if the tyranny in ON continues.

I've had those thoughts too. Won't those bills follow you there? Do what you can - lodge a complaint to CBC, write to your MP, learn how to defend your views...all the best.

I'd *hope* that Alberta would resist these trends... but I fear it's too late.

My leftist brethren need a serious attitude correction.

To be clear, if you do not stand for:

-Freedom of thought

-Freedom of speech

-Freedom of association

-Freedom of movement

-Bodily autonomy

You're not a leftist.

SUCH a relief to hear this issue discussed courageously and openly. Please forward this to anyone you know who may be open-minded enough to listen.

Brilliant conversation!

Yeah, I agree with him. I think the reason most well meaning people go along the "supposed" S.J. movement is a superficial understanding of its real purpose. Underneath it's really, "the new left's assault upon liberalism, individuality and equality of opportunity"

Doyle is the most intelligent, eloquent advocate for free speech that I’ve ever heard. Thank you for featuring him and allowing him to express his views so expansively.

FREE SPEECH IS ESSENTIAL TO FREE THINKING AND UNDERSTANDING YOUR WORLD AND HOW YOU ARE PART OF IT. THOSE OTHER PERSONS WHO SEEK TO DENY SUCH LIVE IN THE " CELLARS " OF THEIR MINDS AND WILL NEVER GROW OR UNDERSTAND OTHERS OR THEM SELVES, THEY WILL BE HYDE-BOUND BY THEIR OWN IDEOLOGY.

"Be braver" excellent!

Good conversation. I would add that free speech reflects two key aspects of our Western heritage, namely its Judeo-Christian and Greco-Roman roots. For free speech to truly flourish will also require we acknowledge the former. Christianity is not the enemy right now.

Leftists are simply replicating the previous power structure, they are enacting all the kids religions enacted for 100s of years.

It's important that we not cherry pick WHO (who's side) the nasty is happening on. We must stand on the principles.

Thanks for your comment Tracey. I don't think the left is 'simply doing anything'. What we are witnessing does not appear to be simply copying what was done by those in power in the past. It also embodies a spiritual element that reminds me of St. Paul, the apostle, and his warning of the spiritual forces that exist in the world (Ephesians 6:12). I now see a range of commentators, both atheist and spiritual, who are now picking up on this, i.e. Jordan Petersen & Jonathan Pageau. I am learning, thanks to institutions like Hillsdale College, that we have a heritage in the West that has been richly informed by Christianity. It seems to me that it is time to acknowledge and appreciate this truth while we have the liberty and freedom to do so.

Terrific interview, as was the first. I subscribed to you on Substack right after seeing Glenn Greenwald interview you on his podcast, having never heard of you previously. (I don’t consume MSM, so that’s why.) I liked what you said during that interview, and now that I’m reading your articles and listening to you interview your own interesting guests on Substack, I must say that I have not been disappointed! The blend of written word and audio is great, keep it up, and thanks.

I came here too because of Glenn Greenwald. Ms. Henley, you are easy to listen to, please do what Glenn Greenwald does and duplicate as much as possible on audio. I tend to skip over or scan the written versions.

Brilliant interview, thank you, Tara. This got me to subscribe. I want to support brave people like you who are leading the way out of this control and manipulation of free thought and speech.
